In October, I had the opportunity to attend the International Wildfire Conference in Athens, hosted by OroraTech. The event brought together experts from across the world and offered a powerful insight into the global wildfire crisis. As climate change accelerates and ecosystems continue to shift, wildfires are becoming more frequent, more intense, and increasingly unpredictable. This new reality is challenging our ability to forecast, monitor, and prevent fire events; tasks that are now more critical than ever.
For decades, satellite remote sensing has played a central role in wildfire detection and monitoring. Public and open-source missions have been invaluable tools, but the scale and speed of today’s fire dynamics demand more advanced solutions. Companies like OroraTech are stepping into this gap, developing next-generation infrared satellites that significantly enhance detection speed, monitoring precision, prediction capability, and post-fire assessment.
At Permian Global, we have always championed the use of cutting-edge technology to protect forests more efficiently and accurately. In 2023, we integrated OroraTech’s system into our fire mitigation and monitoring strategy. The results speak for themselves: our projects have seen a remarkable reduction in fire incidents. Nowhere has this impact been clearer than in the Katingan Mentaya Project in Central Kalimantan, where we have recorded zero fires in the past five years.
But the challenge is far from over. As climate change intensifies, wildfires will continue to be one of the most visible and destructive consequences—capturing global attention while threatening ecosystems, wildlife, and human lives. The need for rapid, intelligent, and reliable fire-monitoring technology has never been greater.
Staying ahead of the curve is not optional; it is essential. At Permian Global, we remain committed to combining the best available science, emerging technologies, and local knowledge to build resilient landscapes and safeguard the forests that the world depends on.
On December 3rd – 5 pm CET. Ororatech will be hosting myself and David Stone, Head of Communications in a webinar.
Learn how Permian Global improved its carbon credit rating and wildfire response with satellite technology from OroraTech. In this live session, experts from both teams reveal how to build fire resilience, reduce carbon loss, and meet evolving climate standards.
