The Amazon is a mosaic of life. Every sound, every color, and every species plays a role in the balance that sustains climate, water, and the well-being of human communities. But how to transform this wealth into living knowledge that reinforces respect and care for biodiversity? It was with this in mind that Permian Brasil created the series “Biodiversity Moment”, shared on social networks and in local WhatsApp groups of the communities of the Rio Cautário RESEX (learn more).
The idea is to bring people closer to the living Amazon – to the colors, sounds and personalities that inhabit the territory. Therefore, each post presents a species of Amazonian fauna or flora in images, also showing its habitat, threats, ecological role and curiosities that arouse empathy and pride. It is an invitation to see what goes beyond scientific data. It’s about feeling the silent kinship between us and the other living things that share this planet.
The Amazon is full of characters with fascinating stories. The agouti, for example, is a small gardener of the forest: when burying the nuts it collects to eat later, it forgets some along the way – and thus, plants new Brazil nut trees, perpetuating one of the most emblematic trees in the Amazon.
The Bolivian dolphin, known for its games and intelligence, likes to swim in pairs, “smiling” as if recognizing a friend. Their presence is a reminder that joy and curiosity are also part of nature.
The jaguar, silent and precise, is a symbol of strength and balance. By controlling the populations of other species, it keeps the ecological cycle in harmony. She is also a guardian of myths and fears – but, above all, a being who shares with us the instinct to care for and protect her home.
The macaw, with its bright red, is one of the most vibrant voices in the forest. It lives in faithful pairs throughout life, reminding us of the importance of bonds and cooperation.
The black-faced monkey, playful and curious, travels from branch to branch spreading seeds, ensuring that the forest is renewed.
Even the gypsy, a bird that looks like something out of an old tale, with its attentive gaze and nest on the waters, takes care of the young with a dedication that any mother recognizes.
These stories bring us closer because they reveal something essential: there is a living being inside every animal. They have habits, routines, moods – and, like us, depend on a stable environment to live well.
The “Biodiversity Moment” is shared on social networks and also in the form of videos narrated by artificial intelligence, adapted for WhatsApp and community radio. This allows knowledge to circulate even in areas with little connectivity – transforming information into a tool for environmental awareness and belonging to the same biosphere.
The language is simple, visual and affectionate. We value the local names of the species, the way of speaking of the communities and the traditional knowledge that enriches the view of the forest. After all, communicating is also recognizing those who teach with the experience of living there.
More than an educommunication project, the “Biodiversity Moment” is a bridge between the human and the non-human. When a child laughs at the monkey’s clumsy way, is enchanted by the flight of the araracanga or learns that the dolphin has friends, a bond of care is born there.
And it is from this affection that the attitudes that really protect the forest arise – the connection, the respect and the desire to preserve the place that this biodiverse wealth inhabits.
Each post, each video, is a seed of consciousness planted on the networks, on the local radio and in the hearts of those who live and work in the Amazon; and of those who do not know the forest, but still depend on it, so that everyone recognizes themselves as part of the same organism called Earth.
