Permian Global Research:

Permian Global Research was founded in 2007 with the objective of using private capital in the effort to conserve and restore large areas of tropical forest, thereby contributing to climate change mitigation. Permian Global is establishing a global portfolio of tropical forest conservation and restoration projects in cooperation with a range of partners including national and subnational government agencies and ministries, as well as local NGOs.

The Position:

An opportunity has arisen for a GIS Technician to join the growing Research team within the company, assisting with collection, organization and analysis of geospatial data to support decision making and project management processes associated with developing international forest carbon projects. The selected candidate will work closely in collaboration with members of internal Research and Project Development teams, as well as third party partners. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Identify relevant GIS data and analysis needs for forest conservation and restoration projects in the context of their contribution to climate change mitigation

- Facilitate data collection, processing, analysis and presentation

- Conduct geospatial analysis/modelling and produce thematic maps using accepted methodologies in support of project assessment, development, and operations

- Build database infrastructure for efficient management of spatial and non-spatial data

Essential Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have obtained an MSc or PhD in Geographical Information Science, Remote Sensing, Geography, Information Technology or related scientific field, have at least 2 years previous work experience in a professional environment and a solid knowledge of GIS applications in forestry and conservation. He or she will:

- Have a thorough understanding of GIS theory and practice

- Have expert knowledge of ArcGIS and other relevant software applications

- Have prior experience and demonstrated success in building spatial and non-spatial databases

- Have a proven competence in data management with high standards of excellence

- Have a good understanding of remote sensing technologies

- Be a strong team player experienced in working in a multicultural environment

- Be able to work independently under limited supervision to tight deadlines

- Be able to effectively communicate complex analysis to non-technical staff

- Be fully fluent in English

Desirable Qualifications:

- Experience in land-use change modelling

- Strong interest in conservation and sustainable development

- Experience in developing countries and conservation related work a plus

- Additional languages a plus
